How to Reach Seven Sisters

By Air

The primary gateway to the Seven Sisters region is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati, Assam. This airport is well-connected with major Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai, with multiple daily flights operated by airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara. From Guwahati, private cabs can be arranged to reach Shillong (approx. 3 hours), Tezpur (approx. 5 hours), or further into Arunachal Pradesh towards Dirang, Bomdila, and Tawang. For Mizoram and Tripura, Aizawl Airport (AJL) and Agartala Airport (IXA) respectively serve as regional hubs, with flights primarily from Kolkata and Guwahati.

By Train

Guwahati Railway Station is the main railhead for the Seven Sisters, connecting the Northeast with the rest of India via broad gauge lines. It has direct trains from Delhi, Kolkata, and other major cities. From Guwahati, private cabs or buses can be taken to Shillong (110 km), Cherrapunji (near Shillong), and other destinations. Tezpur also has a smaller railway station with limited connectivity. For Nagaland, the nearest railhead is Dimapur, about 70 km from Kohima, accessible by road.

By Road

The Seven Sisters are connected by a network of national and state highways, though road conditions vary with terrain and weather. Guwahati serves as the central hub for road travel in the region. Shillong (Meghalaya) is about a 3-hour drive from Guwahati via NH40. The route to Tawang and Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh from Guwahati takes around 10-12 hours, passing through scenic mountain roads. Roads to Mizoram and Tripura are accessible from Silchar in Assam, which is about 7-8 hours from Guwahati by road. TravMe’s private cabs ensure comfortable and flexible travel through these often remote and hilly areas.
