By Air

The nearest major airport to Himachal Pradesh is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), approximately 113 km from Shimla and well-connected to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Another convenient option is Kangra Airport (DHM) near Dharamsala, about 13 km from the town, with regular flights from Delhi and other northern cities. For Manali and Kullu, the closest airport is Bhuntar Airport (KUU), around 50 km from Manali, with limited flights primarily from Delhi. The nearest airports are Shimla Airport, Kullu-Manali Airport, and Dharamsala Airport, while major railheads include Kalka (for Shimla via the toy train) and Pathankot for Dalhousie and Dharamsala.

Most popular tourist spots like Shimla, Manali, and Dharamsala do not require permits; however, some restricted border areas may need special permits, so it's best to check locally.

Pack layered clothing, including warm jackets, especially if traveling between October and February; comfortable walking shoes and rain gear are advisable during the monsoon months of July and August.
